When Basic Motors launched its first ever "small block" Chevrolet V8 in 1955, it was to take the title of hottest mass-market V8 from Ford. Smaller, lighter and full of extra energy than earlier American V8 motors, the GM small block grew to become the favourite of everybody from the Sunday cruiser, to scorching rodders. Fortunately, GM is holding the torch for the V8 a bit longer, proper by the EV revolution.
